Product Details

VICTOR COLETTE, BELGIUM
A RARE .40 INTERNALLY CHARGED REPEATING PISTOL, MODEL '1853 PATENT', serial no. VC1716,
circa 1860, with blued octagonal micro-rifled 9in. barrel swelling at the breech, the top-flat with semi-circular groove and mounting a blued magazine bearing sights, the rounded breech-block lifting and automatically dropping on cocking the hammer, tapering scroll engraved iron action body, the top-tang mounted with sliding safe, swept fluted butt with scroll carved panels down each side and iron moulded spire pommel, scroll engraved spurred trigger-guard bow, strong amount of original finish remaining

Other Notes: The unusual Colette pistol worked on a similar principle to the Volcanic (q.v.), but rather than lifting the round to present to the bore, it was dropped from a gravity fed magazine from above. Ignition was accomplished in much the same way; an internal charge within the bullet was ignited by a long firing pin striking an internal cap
